    A slice of apple placed in the bag will help.....

    I had same problem, and successfully re-softened the sugar by placing a moist paper towel in a plastic bag with the brown sugar and microwaved it about 5-15 seconds. Worked like a charm. I only resoften a little at a time. And yes, putting a slice of apple in the container will help, although it will get the sugar wet under it, and if you leave it too long, it will be too wet.
