When baking Banana bread can I substitute apple sauce for vegetable oil?
well... you can substitute anything for anything.... but how did it taste... did you try it..... the only substitution i have tried and recommend no one else follow in my way... is eggnog gravy.... no you may not sub eggnog for milk in milk gravy.. it just doesn,t work...i would not think that apple sauce would do anything like what veg oil does in a recipe. but as i say how did it taste... take my keyboard away.. or i'll anwer all night long. why would you want to use apple sauce instead of veg oil... i sub because i'm out of an item needed.... was that the reason or was apple sauce just an added item.. which would be good.....banana apple sauce bread... or you can add pineapples and make the whole thing upside down.. i'm going.... sorry .... it just won,t stop...who r u
A few years ago I saw a product on the grocery shelves that touted it was a vegetable oil replacement - it was some kind of fruit puree in a jar, a dark brown mixture that looked like a prune or date puree (or possibly darkened applesauce). The fruit serves the purpose of keeping the moisture in the cake, much like what butter, oil (or even bananas/applesauce do in a banana or applesauce cake) and serves as a binder.
You might be able to use applesauce for 1/2 of the oil if you're on a reduced fat diet, but keep in mind that some oils are good for you and serve as emulsifiers and transporters of fat-soluble vitamins. You might also want to try using peanut oil or extra light olive oil in your baking and see how you like that.
