    Camping - Dutch Oven Recipes

    Duck with Sauerkraut

    2 qt Sauerkraut
    2 med onion, quartered
    3 tbs brown sugar
    salt
    pepper
    1 c water
    1 whole game duck

    Bake duck in 375 oven for 25 to 30 min. Pour sauerkraut, water, onions, brown sugar, salt and pepper over duck and stir well. Simmer for 1-1/2 hours. Good served with mashed potatoes.

    Camping - Dutch Oven Recipes

    Texas Pork Roast

    1 small leg of pork
    2 tbs lemon juice
    1 tsp salt
    dash of Tabasco sauce
    pepper to taste
    1 c melted cinnamon-flavored
    1/8 tsp allspice or plain apple jelly
    1 tsp chili powder
    1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
    1-1/4 c chili sauce

    Place pork in oven and sprinkle with mixture of salt, pepper, allspice and chili powder. Combine remaining ingredients, and spread evenly on pork. Roast at 350 for 30 min per pound. Baste frequently with well seasoned drippings in the pan.

    Serves 14-16.

    Cobbler Recipes

    Black Forrest Cake

    2 cans cherry pie filling
    1 chocolate cake mix
    ½ cup margarine or butter

    Pour cherry pie filling into Dutch oven.
    Top with dry cake mix.

    Drop dots of butter on top of cake mix.
    Cook at 325 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes, 14-16 coals on top and 6-8 under.

    Fruit Cobbler

    2 cans of fruit pie filling (we've tried apple, peach, pear, cherry and blueberry)
    2 boxes yellow or white cake mix
    1 1/2 cups brown sugar
    1 1/2 cups quick cook oatmeal
    1 1/2 sticks of butter

    Line Dutch oven with aluminum foil (not necessary, but makes clean-up easier).

    Empty 2 cans of pie filling into the bottom of the Dutch oven and spread evenly.

    Pour in 2 boxes of cake mix and spread evenly.

    Top with brown sugar, oatmeal and butter cut into slices.

    Put lid on oven, put on top of 12 hot coals and put another 8 on top of the lid. Cook for 45 minutes.

    Feeds 8-12, depending on how hungry you are!

    Chocolate Cherry Cobbler

    2 cans cherry pie filling
    2 boxes chocolate cake mix
    3/4 cup water
    1 12 oz bag chocolate chips
    1 1/2 stick of butter

    Line Dutch oven with aluminum foil (not necessary, but makes clean-up easier).
    Empty 2 cans of cherry pie filling into the bottom of the Dutch oven and spread evenly.
    Pour in 2 boxes of chocolate cake mix and spread evenly.

    Sprinkle cake mix with water - makes the cobbler more moist.

    Top with chocolate chips and butter cut into slices.

    Put lid on oven, put on top of 12 hot coals and put another 8 on top of the lid. Cook for 45 minutes.

    Feeds 8-12, depending on how hungry you are!

    Pumpkin Dump Cake

    1 30 oz can of pumpkin pie mix
    1 5oz can of evaporated milk
    2 eggs
    1 yellow cake mix
    2 sticks of butter

    Line Dutch oven with aluminum foil (not necessary, but makes clean-up easier). *You can also use a 9x13 pan.

    Empty can of pumpkin pie filling into the bottom of the Dutch oven along with eggs and evaporated milk.

    Mix and spread evenly.

    Pour in box of cake mix and spread evenly.
    Top butter cut into slices.

    Cook:
    Put lid on oven, put on top of 12 hot coals and put another 8 on top of the lid. Cook for 45 minutes.

    Put into oven at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes until top is golden brown.

    Feeds 8-12, depending on how hungry you are!
