Substitute for paddle attachment on mixer?

I want to try to make a Sweet and Salty Cake, and the recipe specifies using a Stand mixer with a paddle attachment. I do not have a Stand mixer or a paddle attachment for my hand mixer. Will I ruin the cake if I use flat beaters and a hand mixer?

The safe way would be to beat by hand, a lot of work though. You can skip going to the gym after making that cake!

(Hand mixer) I would imagine it would be ok, just don't run the hand mixer on "high", it may beat in too much air and change the consistancy of the cake.

The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step!
