    Is there any substitution for cumin? Ran out and can't get to the store.

    Hi annie,
    you can use corriander or chili powder,you can actually use bothm( which i would) just use 1/2n1/2 of the measurement that the recipe asks for. hope that helps you

    Cumin

    If you just don't happen to have plain cumin, but do have chili powder, use that. The heat of the chili powder may be from chili, but the characteristic flavour that it gives, for example, to chile con carne is from the cumin.

    If you don't want to use cumin because of someone's allergies or personal tastes, you could try caraway seeds (the seeds that are used in rye bread). They (like whole cumin seeds) are particularly good when "toasted" gently in a dry sauté pan then, if desired, ground.
