If I need 4 cups of cooked macaroni, how many cups of dry macaroni do I use? I always seem to make waaaaay too much.
Thanks!

1/2 package(11oz) makes about 6 cups cooked so I would measure 2-1/4 cups

Also be sure to check the recipe carefully. Does it say "4 cups cooked macaroni," or does it say "4 cups of macaroni, cooked"? The former most likely means to measure it after cooking, but the latter probably means before.
of course i have to add my two bits worth. ha ha ha .
as a general rule, 2 ounces dry pasta makes about 1 cup cooked pasta. or 1 serving, spaghetti and macaroni approxatimly(?) double in volume, upon cooking, but packaged egg noodles don't expand quite that muchmFresh pasta is much more moisturer than the dried pasta, so you will need a greater weight for each serving- 3-3-1/2 ounces to make 1 cup serving.
2 ounces of uncooked spaghetti and macoroni, provides less than 210 calories. you can get at your kitchen section of your wal-mart or other store in the cooking section a spaghetti measurer, it has small med large hole through a plastic thingy and it tells you on the gadget how much pasta you will need to serve the amount of people you need to feed.i'ts a handy little gadget and i use mine all the time, as my eyeballing ( depends if i have my glasses on or off)sometimes goes a little awry,OY,VEY!
Hope that helps you out Gabriele, and "k's"
