how much is a stick of butter

Hi im new to this, the whole cooking thing escaped me until now, I found a recipe I wanted to try, but it calls for 2 sticks of butter, being from the UK I dont know how much that is..can you help please

1 stick of butter is a 1/2 cup so times it by 2.

2 sticks of butter = 1/2 cup + 1/2 = 1 cup of butter.

That's correct. 1 stick is 0.5 or 1/2 a cup or 8 tablespoons. so 2 sticks is 1.0 or 1 cup or 16 tablespoons.
