On some nights, my son forgets to put away all the leftovers. I end up throwing them out, wasting good food!
I know it's better to be safe than sorry, but can some types of cooked food be left out on the counter overnight?

To answer that question would be playing russian roulette. There are some many variables when it comes to a question like that that it can't be answered correctly. Room temp, product, product temp when left out, preperation of product ect... You are probably doing the right thing by tossing them out. If you don't want to waste them get a pig you can feed it to and then have it processed for the freezer.

I agree..depending on what type of foods youve prepared and also Ive experienced this with my son as well. soon learned that leaving food out after a hards day of preparing his next meal took longer to fix..when hungry!! hasnt left out anything since then. ive left out some beef stew or on accident a slab of bacon or ham, but my house temp is pretty cool at night and havent had any prob. now chicken or any poultry cooked or uncooked I wouldnt dare.
