I am looking for a potato soup recipe...

like my grandmother used to make. She used carrots, celery, chicken boulion, but what I can't figure out is how to make the base so creamy and buttery (i can't find a recipe with this flavor!)

I am looking for a potato soup recipe...

here is a recipe you may be looking for. try using the half and half and add butter to it. also a trick my grandmother showed me is to make the soup creamy you can add some instant mashed potatoes to it. hope this helps.

here is the recipe my grandmother used to make my favorite potatoe chowder. it is also a great soup for clam chowder (omitting the bacon bits, if you want) let me know what you think. ill also post in the forum.she used left over boiled potatoes..lol..and sometimes she would add a can of cream corn.

    POTATOE CHOWDER SOUP

    INGREDIENTS

1/4 C cut up bacon or lean salt pork
    1 med onion (about 1/2C )
2 stalks celery chopped (about 1 cup )
2 med carrots sliced or diced ( about 1 cup )
2-3 tbsp of flour ( I like to use the wondra flour )
4 cups of half and half ( or milk)
    2-3 tbsp of butter
    1/4 tsp of white pepper
    dash of salt
5-6 med cooked white potatoes - peeled, chopped and quartered
( I like to use the red new potaoes or the golden yukons)
    dash of paprika (optional)

    DIRECTIONS-

Cook bacon till tender crisp in a 3 quart saucepan and drain. reserve about 3 tbsp of the fat in the saucepan. cook onion, celery, carrots in the saucepan till tender, remove from heat. stir in flour. cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is bubbly, remove from heat, stir in half and half (or milk). grad heat to boiling, stirring constantly about 1 minute. add salt, peppers, onion, celery, carrots and potatoes and heat through, then stir in the drained bacon. top with parsely and paprika.

    walla potatoe chowder!!
