    Honesty..my quick tip is cooking spray ..works everytime and I make at least 3 cakes a month!

    Don't forget to use the wrapper from your stick of butter, just rub it over your pan surface before tossing the wrapper.

    used shortning and ap flour, that's what Mom used. I would get annoyed with excess flour being on the cake, especially chocolate, as for the sprays, I don't care to use them for cakes. I use crisco, and sifter to coat tthe pan w/flour. I do like the idea of using cocoa for chocolate cakes, confectioners for pound cakes, but if you take the dry cake mix and use some of it to coat the pan, won't that throw your batter off measurement wise?

    pam now makes one that has flour in it.

    My mother says don't sweat getting the grease on your hands. It works like a good hand cream and keeps your hands looking young. Hahahaha! I still don't like it too much!

    I used to do that before I got the baking spray. Still do sometimes!

    I didn't read what everyone else put about this but this is what I do: Take a big piece of plastic wrap and wrap it around your hand. Then spread your hand in some margerine. Then spread on pan. Always works for me!

    Then I bought a pastry bush to make it easier.
