in a 2 1/2 or 3 qt sauce pan add sauces, tomatoes, paste and water. heat thru and add all seasonings. heat to a boil. let simmer on low heat for 45-50 min stirring occassionaly. if your using beef or italian sausage make sure you brown first and drain and add to sauce. you can always add more seasonings to taste. enjoy over your fav pasta. sprinkle with parmesean cheese.
Question. I made sauce over the weekend and it turned out "too tangy". Is there something I can add to tame it?
Alot of times when I am in a hurry, the best thing to do is to buy a premade sauce in a jar, like Prego or classico a flavor your family likes then I add my own spices to it, like extra Italian seasoning, garlic or onion, canned mushrooms if you like that. In 15 mins after it heats you have sauce... Its easy and fast. You can also add a pre-cooked and drained meat, sometimes I use hamburger, sometimes ground turkey... Works great and tastes great.
Add a tablespoon of sugar
Alot of times I get in a hurry and put in too much oregano. Adding more basil seems to tame it a bit for me. Also you can always add a bit more tomato sauce or chopped tomatoes.
i also do this..heres a sauce you can make and use for pizza too and it freezes well...
basic red sauce for any Italian recipe...
(A.K.A. Spaghetti Sauce!)
Ingredients
1-28oz. can of crushed tomato, stewed tomato or puree
1-6oz. can of tomato paste
2-3 cloves of garlic (or more)
Olive oil
Basil, parsley, oregano, salt,
pepper to taste
1/4 cup of red table wine (more or less)
Directions
1. Crush garlic with the side of a knife and mince.
2. Add olive oil to a sauce pot turned on to medium-low heat. Add garlic and gently sauté.
3. (Savor the aroma of the cooked garlic!) Lightly cook garlic until it starts to change color.
4. Don't overcook, as the garlic will be bitter if left to long.
5. Add canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and wine. Add spices to taste.
6. Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer. Stir occasionally as the mixture cooks
7. If you wish, add more minced garlic or spices.
