Did you know Mango skin is poisonous?

Our last trip to Hawaii I had a conversation with a young woman that said, she had been climbing a Mango tree and biting into the mangos which caused a rash and soars on her face and legs. I was talking with my husband afterwards and he said she was probably a Meth addict (which might be true, she was VERY skinny) but it left me wondering could it be true about the Mangos? Turns out she was telling me the truth. Who knew? I had never heard this before. What other foods might be lurking in my frig or pantry that have devious intentions?

Sorry about that! I like complete answers when I research.............
The apple seeds! I knew about rhubarb since I've grown it for years. The leaves are good to make garden stepping stones out of concrete.
With a list this long it could make you very paranoid about eating.
When I researched mango skin came up a lot. I also found out you can eat the skin of kiwi. Really, who wants a mouth full of fuzzy stuff? Maybe it's just me.

I've heard of eating kiwi skin. My mom grew kiwi but they were tiny, the hairs were more like peach fuzz (which I don't like either.) Anyhow with tiny grape size kiwi not much left if you peel them. So jently scrub the skin with a vegtable brush. I've thrown the whole (large) kiwi into my juicer after cleaning.

I guess people can be allergic to anything. I love mango. In Thailand I noticed they like to eat them green dipped in salt. Now this was one thing I didn't care to try. Hey, since y'all are playing, can I play too? I love to toy with food in the kitchen!

The ingredient that matters in mango skin is urushiol and it's a known allergen so some people must avoid it. If it was a poison, everyone would need to avoid it. Most importantly, there is only one way to eat mongoes - sitting in the creek.
