    substitute half and half for cream?

    Does anyone know if i could substitute half n half for cream ? Im making Baked macaroni. Thanks in advance. Deb

    Of course you can. They are close. The cream just makes it richer and higher in fat. That's the tasty part!

    Recipes that call for cream often rely on the ability of whipping cream to thicken without additional starch. If your recipe calls for flour or corn starch to thicken the sauce you should be able to substitute half and half or, my favorite low-fat substitution for cream, evaporated milk. If your recipe does not call for additional starch and you use a cream substitute you may have to add the starch so that the sauce will thicken.
