When a recipe calls for green onions, do you use the whole onion (white and green part)?
The recipe will indicate if it is whole, white, green. Whole if not indicated or it just doesn't matter.
Thanks Karen...most do not specify so I will use whole
I usually trim the green off to about an inch or so from the white
For soups I would use the whole thing. Just chop the greens up.
The receipe is for shrimp with lime juice and chili powder. It calls for half cup of chopped green onion.....so I guess I will use most it?
Go for about half and half. The white is flavour and the green is contrast.
Sometimes I hold out the darkest green pieces and put them in a green salad where the family expects to see grren food. They tend to complain when green shows up in their favorite foods.
I usually put them on the top as garnish. Then each can mix in the amount they like. I like them but give me heartburn so I get a few. Hubby would be happy with a plate full.
Thanks everybody for all your help...this was my first time on this site. It won't be my last![]()
