    Question Spaghetti Sauce

    SAUCE:

    1 can tomato paste (12 oz.) fill twice with water
    1 lg. can tomato puree (fill can once with hot water)
    1 tsp. basil
    4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 bay leaf
    1 tsp. black pepper
    2 cloves crushed garlic
    1/4 c. olive oil

    I really do not understand how to use Talkfood. My question is "does this sauce sound too sweet?" 3/4 cup of sugar sounds like a LOT!

    I use sugar I eyeball it actually probably its around a 1/2 cup for 13 cans of puree and a large can of paste. To me that seems like alot of sugar for 1 can of puree

    Put it together first and then add sugar to taste. Different tomatoes and different growing conditions will always be hard to guess. You can add but can't take it out.

    I think it's probably more like 3/4 tsp. sugar, I would't use more than a couple Table spoons. Taste as you add more.

    That is waaaaaay too much sugar! I wouldn't use more than a couple of TEASPOONS. Actually I think I'd find a better recipe. Too much salt in this one, too, imo.

    WHERE did you get that recipe?? My Italian side of the family would keel over. If I'm reading it right you're supposed to add water? I've never heard of that. And yes, I agree that's way too much sugar!!!! I don't even add any to my sauce but if it's really tart I would also do a teaspoon @ a time. I add my salt that way too. It's just my opinion but skip the water, use 2 cans of tomaotoes & add 1/4 cup or so of red wine. I agree w/ Brigid, you need a new recipe!
