That's a better picture to get an idea of storage. very good. Wish I could find a space for my kitchen stepping stool it sure would be handy to have it right there. Right now it's at the other end of the house in a wood shed. Tall hubby does come in handy once in while.

I can relate to the stepping stool comment, and my hubby comes in handy too. My impromptoo stool is a rubbermaid lunch-pail its Faster to grab than a heavy chair or the stool in the other room.

I am only 5'1" so I need a step stool to get into the top cabinits. I can reach to top of my spice tower without it, but thats about it. Karen, where my blender is, that is my bread machine then my Microwave and my toaster oven on top of that. When I make bread, I just move the blender out a bit and pull it fwd., then it is easier for me to manage. I can't imagine putting anything else in my tiny kitchen. It is not an eating kitchen, just cabinets and appliances. The dinning room is just off of it and being by myself, it works just fine for me. Shelves going into the basement would not work in this case, but it sounds like a great idea. Another thing I have is this grab-it. It has prongs at the end and you squeeze it at the top and it is about 3' long. The prongs with rubber on them can grab ahold of a can or whatever and you can get it to your level. The only thing about that is if you have to move stuff from the front to get to something in the back, it does not work.

Thanks, It's just a put together bookshelf that cost less than $30. and it can be designed to ones own needs. It is much easier to find things. I had so many spices, herbs and bottles of stuff that I had to do something. My kitchen is very small so this worked out great. I always heard that when you need space and don't have the room, go vertical.

Oh, Karen - you have all those really old rules and receipts! Now I am really jealous! Tried to get my M-I-L's basic cookbooks, but one of the other daughters got them. I have Mom's recipe box, and several cook-books; the best one being Boston Cooking School Cookbook, which she got shortly after marrying my Pop. (1946) I still refer to it sometimes, although it has become really fragile. Bought a modern update recently, lots of good stuff, but not as much fun to read.

I just have to say you are really lucky to have those 'treasures!"
