    Mandolin?

Anyone have one? Or suggest a brand from experience?

There is a thread under kitchen gear. But no brand names are mentioned. Just styles.

I have one with a V-shaped blade; it was quite cheap and has been perfectly serviceable. No brand name is marked on it (which surprises me, because I remember that the brand was not unknown to me when I bought it) and I threw away the manual some time ago so there's no help there. For frequent or heavy duty use it might be worth springing for one of better quality, but the good ones can be quite expensive. Mine was, as I remember, about $25 and has survived several years of occasional use. My mother still has an angle-bladed one that I gave her back in the 70s. Still works fine nearly 40 years later, though admittedly it only gets used a few times each year.

here's a link to the mandoline thread:
    http://www.talkfood.com/forum/showth...1779-mandoline

Having reread it I realize that what I have is technically a slicer rather than a true mandolin, since it has a pedestal base that doesn't fold up. Also I should add that mine has never been tested by the high temperatures in a dishwasher- it simply rinses clean most of the time, and has never needed more than a casual wipe beyond that.

Pay a little more for a good one. I bought a cheap one and it twisted in the dishwasher!

I have been very happy with all my OXO gadgets, with the exception of my food processor and stand mixer, I have been very disappointed in Kitchenaid items, such as my garlic press, can opener, veggie peeler, all of those things were replaced w/OXO!

I would suggest a stainless steel one like this
    http://www.etundra.com/Stainless_Ste...Set-P5564.html

It works perfectly and washes really easily. Plus,l this one comes with a hand guard and interchangeable blades!

    Good thinking, Kookie!!

I like Oxo products also. The only Oxo product that I don't like is the sink strainer. That one broke on me and I took it back to BB&B for a refund.
