    Baked Ham

Have you ever heard of covering your ham with damp paper towels before covering with foil? I have never heard of this before, but that's what the manufacture wrapper says to do. It must be common, hence printed on wrapper but I find it bazaar. Won't the paper stick to the meat? I think I'll go with a glaze instead but I am curious about the paper towel method.

Could you provide me with the product name? I'd like to find out the reason for this. Still like a brown sugar, mustard glaze with a bit of apple juice.

It does sound really strange at first, but when you think about it more, the foil will hold in all of the steam that the paper towels contribute to. It still strikes me as odd, but who knows? If that is what the manufacturer recommends...our research pit bull will find out for us, go get 'em, KB!!!

Is the recommended heat low, and is there any other liquid in the pan? That would seem to make some kind of sense...but so much for the glaze, I guess!

Never heard of it either, I usually use dark brown sugar and whole cloves.

Hi Aunty! This seems odd to me as well..I haven't made a ham in a while but you want to keep the meat moist but have a little crispy outside, right? I don't see why foil won't work alone, like when rosting a turkey. I agree w/ the others...I just mix mustard & honey for a glaze & stud w/ cloves also. And I would also think the paper towels would stick, if not making a glaze, what about cheesecloth instead? Do you still have the packaging? I would look for one of those "questions/comments" consumer phone numbers, call & ask their reason for this. Otherwise, if your previous hams have come out good, stick w/ what you're doing! As always, ( is it just me about this issue?) let us know how it all turns out!

Sorry, Ms Slink, I just like to play w/ fonts...Even w/ my reading glasses I think the font size on this site is TOO SMALL!!! ( there, I yelled again ) I promise to try to "keep it down" fr now on! I can always hit my zoom level on the computer up a notch. Yes, very strange about that ham.....

Hee...Hee...Hee.....I've got reading glasses too, much cheaper than prescriptions, right? I don't know what zoom level is on the computer, perhaps you could fill me in?

I think that if you hit "crtl" and the plus (+) button on the keyboard, next to "backspace", that everything will appear larger. It worked for me...

I was going to put this in a private mssg but maybe it can help others (sorry Aunty so get off the ham track) I don't know what operating systems your comp has, if it's an Apple I can't help. Look on the bottom right corner of your page just above the taskbar. I have a little magnifying glass w/ a "100%" next to it. Just click it to pick how much you want to enlarge the type. Do you have that? If not, maybe we can try to find it thru personal msg.
