Thread: cranberry/blackberry custard?

    cranberry/blackberry custard?

Does anybody know if I can serve cranberries with a custard? I've made it with blackberries and raspberries for summertime, but want it a little bit more "wintery" for Christmas. Do blackberries even GO with cranberries? I was thinking I would make the custard with orange extract instead of vanilla. Please advise. Thanks.

Do you plan on using dried cranberries (craisins) or cooking fresh cranberries? What's your game plan?

game plan: maybe add cranberry granola?

Didn't have a game plan but after some research I am thinking that I will serve individual cups. Put a layer of cranberry granola, then some dried cranberries and blackberries, then spoon the custard over top and sprinkle with some brown sugar. Just didn't want to do blueberries, raspberries, and other "summer" fruits. Thanks for good questions. Can you tell I don't DO dessert?!?

Sounds good to me. Do a couple of layers and why not make a topping of brown sugar, nuts and butter. Like a praline, would be special.

If you happen to have any Grand Marnier kicking around the house it makes an outstanding addition to custard. Although quite expensive, many liquor stores also carry it in nip sized bottles, usually about 2 oz. each, so you don't need to make a financial investment in it!

Excellent idea K.Slink I would suggest Bailey's Irish Cream because of the hazelnut flavour would be great with the praline.

A little bit of liquer goes a long way in adding a big flavor punch, and those little nippy bottles make it so much more affordable...
