Cooking Gear--The Old vs New--What's your favorite.

I own and operate a large antique store. In many cases I find. the antique tools and cooking pans are better then the new. I love my old cast iron for both baking and stove top preparation. I just found an old Dormeyer that caused me to throw my new one away. Old fire King and Pyrex is really hard to beat. Tell us what is your favorite old tool

I have my grandmother's colander. It's a specked blue and gray. Very curious how she managed to get a dent in the side of it?! I suspect the 3 boys were involved.
I have my late mother in law's blender from the 50's. That monster will chop anything.
I have my mothers canning equipment... I could go on for days!! Your right some of new stuff just doesn't cut it. I threw out all my non stick pans because they just burnt everything.

Is this the same blender that self released while you were making bright red-orange salad dressing around last Halloween? I might not be able to walk from one room to another and remember WHY, but I still have an imaginary picture of that one happening!

I agree about the older equipment, back when it was known as "craftsmanship" instead of "crapmanship". Just give me a good old pan that has baked a thousand cakes with only greasing and flouring over these non-stick deals which end up peeling and leaving who knows what in the food.....

Of course it is. The thing has a personality of its own! You should see it do the shimmy across the counter top!

We should all be able to shimmy so well after 50 years, huh?

I have been using graniteware alot for the oven. I have found both new and used at Goodwill. 3 bucks for a new small roaster or bean pot is quite the deal. Also a new Nordic stove top griddle in the sleeve for 4 bucks. How about an unused clamp
on counter hand grinder? With a few extras? Another 4 buck deal.

Salvation Army has been a great source for tableware. All those low priced Sysco pieces. Different sized pasta plates, ramkins etc that I use alot.

I agree. I got 3 enamel pie pans for my pie holder and just love them. Lots of bake ware. Glasses.Vinegar cruet. etc. They are the best deal in town.Salvation Army is the best buy for me.

I picked up a deviled egg dish and three bags of cookie cutters for just under $5 at the local Goodwill store, quality stuff and the best prices in town! I will definitely be back for more.....

To answer the original question, my mothers cast iron frying pan has to be my favorite piece of equipment, it's a true winner and makes me look like a better cook than I probably am!

sifter. I don't like the way they make the newer ones.

however, I do like some of the newr tools like the mezzaluna.
