    italian meat pie

I'm looking for a recipe for Italian meat pie, like I bought at the pizza parlors in lawrence, mass. 50 years ago. They were so good! they were ground pork, baked in pizza crust. The only vegetable in them I can remember was onions. They also made spinach pies. YUM!!!!! Thank you.....

It sounds like they could be calzones. If they looked like a half circle and crimped at the edges, fried or baked that might be it. You can find various recipes on google or go to recipe search at the top of the page. Hope this helps.

thanks. they may be called calzones now. they were baked in a large pan pizza crust top and bottom, then cut into squares.

I'm placing my money on Scaciatta, Italian meat pie.

    There's a picture here

A few years back, I watched a TV food show featuring various places around NE, with a big emphasis on the Boston and surrounding area. It included one place featuring those spinach filled pies, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of them. Anyway, I think we've gotten martjk off to a good start!

True, but this was more of a pizza dough concoction that they were showing being made.....

It can be made both ways. Sometimes the feta is replaced with cottage cheese and an egg. I prefer tiropita. It's phyllo stuffed with feta cheese ( hold the spinach) wrapped into a triangle shape.

I got into enough trouble expressing a personal opinion about a particular ingredient or food group, so I'll just leave it like this--feta cheese and K. Slink? Never gonna happen...
