Walmart got caught doing that in many locations, the big places like Costco Sams Club(which is walmart) and BJs never worked for me.

I shop at Grocery Outlet a lot and love it...you just have to watch the dates on cheeses and dairy products if you don't plan on using them immediately.

I usually can save half by shopping in grocery outlets, Save-a-lot or Aldi's. They will often have the same items as the chain stores marked down by half because they got in a big order. They will often have an some unknown canned goods that are just as good as the name brand-you just have to buy a few different ones to give them a try. Why pay $.89 for a can of Delmonte green beans when you can get them for $.49 at a store like this and they taste the same. It's worth trying out these stores-you may be very surprized at the money you save!

I just bought Yoplait yogurt 10/1.00, M&M's 4/1.00 and Hormel Lunch Meat for 1.39 each at my local discount store. I bought a few extra and threw them in the freezer. It makes my day when I can save money like that!

I have often shopped at Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores in the area. My only beef with these places is that you can never know what they'll be carrying from one season to another, sometimes not even from one visit to another. Same problem even more so with BigLots and another around here that carries a few aisles of food along with half an acre of other oddlots: the Christmas Tree Shop. Sometimes cool stuff, sometimes strange stuff. Always at a discount though.

There is an Aldi's right across the river from Albany. Have been meaning to check it out for some time, but I'm seldom in that area and haven't yet made the short trip just to go there. One of these weekends...

I don't think Grocery Outlet operates in this part of the country; at least I don't know of any. I keep hoping we'll get a Costco, but the two regional chains that dominate the market around here have been entirely successful in frustrating repeated attempts to break into the area for years now. Licenses, zoning, or other permissions are simply made unavailable.

I just stopped at a WinCo Foods (an employee owned store) on my way home from work. I noticed prices were up all over the store. They had some good deals on produce and I saved a few pennies here and there, nothing to write home about. I just get a kick when I can find that killer deal that saves me moola! Overall WinCo is a good bet, there meat prices are pretty good but I haven't bought meat for a couple weeks because I'm cleaning out the freezer for it's anual thaw/clean.

I never buy meat from the Supermarkets. I've been buying for 3 years now from the place they slaughter the animals. The meat is mostly organic and extremely high quality. Who can beat 1/2 a pig cut to my requirements and wrapped for the freezer for $1.85 a pound. I buy a spring lamb every year and the last one cost me around $2.25 a pound cut and wrapped. Our local Costco are asking nearly 10 bucks a pound for lamb chops and you would need a second mortgage to buy a leg for roasting. This is by far my biggest saving on groceries. I do like Grocery Outlet especially for the cheeses

I called into Grocery Outlet to get gallon jars of malt vinegar and had a look at their produce. I got some beautiful Jalapenos, red and green peppers, large cukes for my Chicago relish and celery again for my relish. Wow, I usually know how much I am spending for my canning projects, I'll go to Grocery outlet again, the quality was superb and I spent $17. less than what I budgeted for.
