Different Kinds of Freezer Bags - What's the Difference?

I usually use the plastic bags labelled as "freezer bags" for freezing and "storage" or "sandwich" bags for things going into the refrigerator. Jacky is now insisting that it doesn't matter, and that we can freeze chicken breast cutlets in sandwich bags. Who's right?

sandwich bags = freezer burn = yuck! Sorry Jacky. I found the best thing to do is to use double foil or heavy duty. Wrap tight and place in a plastic freezer bag with label( I use recipe card size with black marker so I can read it without my glasses). Label says what date and how many portions in each foil wrap. I also use a vacuum sealer for freezer items. Good investment.

I don't use the foil (just freezer bags), but KarenB is right, if you use regular sandwich bags, your food will not keep as well. Definitely worth it to keep them separate!

ATK did tests on vacuum sealers and conclusively found that the heavier the plastic used in freezing food, the better results you get.....

I also use a vacuum sealer. Great little invention. I can custom cut my bags.
