I want to make sweet pickles like the ones you buy in the store. Everytime I make some they are like bread and butter pickles. I just want the plain sweet pickles. Can anyone help me? I see there are several recipes posted here. I just want to make sure they are what I want as I don't want to waste ingredients. Thx.
Could it be the spices that you're using in the vinegar/sugar? Bread and butter pickles often have celery seed, turmeric, mustard seed, etc., while some sweet pickles and mixed pickles, gherkins and pickle chunks can have a cinnamon, cloves, and allspice flavored vinegar solution - it's more like what's used when making picallili.
There are many different recipes for sweet pickles - choose one that has a different list of spices than the one you've found you didn't like.
