I have had raccoons many times to come up on the back porch and beg for food. I used to give them stuff but then I got afraid they would depend on it too much, so I stopped. One day I was out in the yard near the edge of the woods fooling around with my flowers when I looked up and a raccoon was standing about 4 ft away and watching me. I sorta freaked and slowly got up and backed away. I am cognizant of how dangerous they can be. Seen lots of little bitty ones, too, trailing along behind their mother. Too little to get up the stairs to the porch!

Give them a week. they will figure it out. I've seen them open garbage cans better and faster than people can.Hmmm...maybe they can help me with my childproof bottles. Anyone seen the movie "over the hedge" I recommend it.

It's easy enough to buy raccoon resistant garbage cans. There's nothing wrong with raccoons except rabies now and then, which is quite enough for me.

.....and then there's the raccoon who builds a nest in your chimney, or between the walls of the house, or in the root cellar.....babies sound like chirping birds, btw.....
