    Violas

New basket of violas blooming profusely, but all the flowers face downwards. Kind of kills the whole point of having them if I can't see the flowers! Any ideas out there?

Sounds like they went too long without water.Flowers will droop first if the plant is missing a good watering. If you can submerge the contain in water for a little bit. If not just keep watering

Unfortunately that wasn't the problem, they are well watered. I've never experienced this before with violas, they are great little troopers. Maybe more sun??? Other than this quirk it's a healthy plant...

Maybe its just the species? Blooms are heavier than stems can support. I have wild violas in my garden that do this.

I dead headed all the downward facing blooms and so far the new ones all seem to be headed in the right direction, maybe that's just what they do when they're on their way out. Plus they're getting more sun now, too...

Yeah, they DO seem to follow the sun. I hope they keep doing well. I haven't much experience with them, but they are so lovely.

They do seem to have a smiling expression about them, don't they? We always called them "Johnny Jump Ups" because of their tendency to spread around the following year, "Viola" is a new term to me. Miniature pansies always seemed pretty accurate....love 'em no matter what they're called!

They look like miniature pansies, don't they? Like little violets. I love them. My Afircan violets are blooming right now. I love those, too. So velvety.

Dead heading and more sun seem to have done the trick. Where I bought them they were completely in shade, so I gradually introduced them to the sun. Basket now has roughly 50 blooms--all facing upwards!

Good! They are hoping to brighten your world every time you look at them. I know they will. When I look at my flowers I feel what miracles they are. I have gardenias blooming outside my door right now. I brought some in the house, and they have sweetened the air in the livingroom.
