    Fancy looking and cheap!

Sometimes you don't have a lot of money and you want to make a dish for someone special to you. I have found this to be one that is a hit every time. Try it and see you agree!

1 round steak, 1/2-1 in. thick
1 tsp. olive oil or vegetable oil
    1 carrot, skinned and chopped
1 egg, hard boiled and chopped
    salt and pepper to taste
    garlic powder to taste
    1 c. water
    1 can tomato sauce
    1/4 tsp. basil
2 pieces of string or cotton cord 1 ft. long

Lay the steak on a cutting board, and spread the oil across the top surface. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Next sprinkle the carrot over the surface, then sprinkle the egg over this. Now roll it up into a log. Tie one piece of string about a third of the way down the log, and then another 1/3 of the way past the first tie. Use your judgement if you think you need one more tie or not. Now brown on all sides in a skillet with a little oil. Next place in a baking dish. Add 1 c. of water to the pan, and cover it with foil. Bake at 400 for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

When finished baking, make a tomato-basil sauce. Use one can of tomato sauce, and 1/4 tsp. basil. Heat this first, then pour over it. When you serve, cut portions into slices about 1 1/2 in. thick. It looks very pretty. Serve with mashed or baked potatoes and your choice of a green vegetable.
