There are so many mandolines out there so does anyone know of a really high quality one that doesn't cost $200 to 300 dollars?

There are many "V" shaped slicers on the market that will do pretty much what a mandoline will do, check them out at your local store. Are you looking for constant use out of it? Like every single day? The really expensive mandolines are constructed for heavy duty use--home use isn't that intense.
I bought one from starfrit. It melted and twisted in the dishwasher. Won't be so cheap the next time.
Yeah, if you buy one so cheap that it even rusts, that's too cheap, and I have had those, too. Stainless steel is the way to go.
Check out ATK for their equipment ratings, they are pretty reliable and don't cost an arm and a leg...
I had a plastic one but it died a couple of times after use. I picked up this mandolin at a restaurant supply and it has been amazing. Super easy to clean and more blade choices than I need.
I have an Oneida (sp?) mandolin and I can tell you to make sure you get one that is a "v-slicer." Mine is not and it takes considerable effort to get the food pushed through sometimes even though my blade is very very sharp.
Is there any such thing as a "V" shaped mandoline, or are we talking about slicers...?
