I scanned through all of the responses about saving money on groceries and I'm surprised that know one has suggested a menu??! All of this advise is great but if you are serious about needing to cut costs it's all related to each other. When you clip that fabulous coupon for a dollar off Tyson chicken breasts you have a plan on how you'll stretch that dollar. Baked chicken Monday and chicken soup or chicken salad for lunch later in the week with the left overs. Check your recipes and pantry for need ingredients and your circular for sales, and make your list. You can also use up those cans and boxes that are at the back of your pantry by typing the ingredients into the recipe serch at the top of the page, maybe you already have everything you need on hand.

Another idea, if your looking to get out, is share dinner, and the expense with freinds. Appetizer at one house, salad next house, main course at the next house and dessert at someone else's house. Or pot-luck at your house or make it a theme night, like pizza and everyone brings a topping and you provide the crust!

I used the "shopping calendar" for years when my husband and I worked long hours. It made our lives so much easier. Now such things can be done on several cooking sites, but mine was on a sheet of copy paper longwise, with days and shopping list at the bottom. I kept all of them and referred to them often to repeat great menus. Save lots of time AND $$.

We do the same things as most of you do in your houses. We have a magnetic list on our fridge. Whenever someone uses the last of something, they tell me and I put it on our list. Then every time we get the flyers, if what we have on the list is on sale, we get it. Otherwise, we just have to do without. Unless it's something like milk, or butter, cheese, bread. Actually, we NEVER run out of bread. When something goes on sale, we stock up.

Andrea, what I think she means by recipe calender is a menu type calender...maybe? We have a simalar thing, planning ahead for all the meals.

If I'm running short of something I take a shot of it with my cell phone, then just check on the shots when i get to the store
