    Sweet and Sour Meatballs


    [LIST][*] 1 pound ground beef[*] 1 egg[*] 1 onion, chopped[*] 1 cup dry bread crumbs[*] salt and pepper to taste[*] 1 cup water[*] 1/2 cup cider vinegar[*] 1/2 cup ketchup[*] 2 tablespoons cornstarch[*] 1 cup brown sugar[*] 2 tablespoons soy sauce[/LIST]


    [LIST=1][*] In a large bowl, combine beef, egg, onion, bread crumbs, salt and pepper. Roll into meatballs about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in size. [*] In a large skillet over medium heat, saute the meatballs until browned on all sides. [*] In a separate medium bowl, mix together the water, vinegar, ketchup, cornstarch, sugar and soy sauce. Pour over the meatballs, and allow sauce to thicken. Continue to heat until the sauce just starts to bubble. [/LIST]

    Looks good. I'm printing now! I like recipes that are basic ingredients. Some days I just don't feel like fussing that much and turn to comfort food recipes instead. I prefer my meatballs done in the oven. Less grease, less attention needed and browns evenly. I also slam my mixture until I get rid of the air in the meat. I find it holds together better and tenderizes the meatball.

    That does sound good and simple to make! I'll try it soon. Oh and KarenB thanks for the advice I'll have to try that and see if my meatballs come out more tender.

    oh yum, we are planning a noshy night soon, and these will be perfect in my fondue pot.....can't wait!
