    THE BETTY CROCKER COOKBOOK-10th EDITION

This book is awesome! I Got it for my birthday year ago and I still use it constantly. It has 18 sections- "Appetizers & Beverages", "Breads", "Cakes and Pies", "Casseroles and slow-cooker", "Cookies and Candies", "Desserts", "Eggs and cheese", "Fish and Shellfish", "Grilling", "Meats", "Poultry", "Rice, Grains, Beans, and Pasta," "Salads and Salad Dressings", "Sauces, Seasonings, and Accompaniments", "Soups, Sandwiches, and Pizza", "Vegetables and Fruit", "Vegetarian", and "20 minutes or less".

It has clear instructions, color pictures, and handy "Learn with Betty" sections-it shows, for example, three pictures of a cookie-over-baked, under-baked, and perfect, and reasons for what may have gone wrong. I would definitely recommend this book!

This is one of the classic and most user friendly cookbooks out there. I love it! The photographs are beautiful and it is sheer pleasure to just READ. Everyone who loves cooking needs this book, imo.

The very first cookbook I ever bought was at a grade school book fair--I was 9 years old and wanted "Betty Crocker's Cooky Book". My mother thought I was nuts. I'd still trust anything with that name attached to it. Another very user friendly publication is "The Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book". That's pretty much how I taught myself to cook back in the 70's when I was a kid...

My first one was Betty Crocker cooking for boys and girls. I still have it but no front cover. My Dad would ask all the time for the sugar cookies.

I agree, for sure. Many times I have sat down with a cup of tea in an armchair and read it as if it were a novel.

Me, too. One of the cookbooks my mother still has is filled with my pre-school age scribbles. I always loved the beautiful cakes that were decorated for birthdays or weddings.

We're probably off of the original thread, but at this point, who cares??? If a cookbook CAN'T read as a novel, it's not worth reading.

My thought is if you can't read a cookbook as a novel you are not a foodie. It seems to be soothing and the highlight is the the dessert section! We are obsessed and proud of it!
