This has been my kitchen handbook ever since I got married. A mother wrote it as a cookbook/manual for her daughters, so it's full of wonderful recipes, money-saving tips, information on canning and preserving, with "How-To's" on everything from carving a turkey to making a pie crust. To clarify, it IS a cookbook, but with a lot more information and helps than an average cookbook.
There is a special canning/preserving section that lists fruits and vegetables alphabetically with detailed instructions on how to can or freeze them, and which is better for that particular food. I would highly recommend this to any young bride especially, but even an experienced cook can enjoy it. My mother has been cooking and canning for years, but when she got this cookbook she could hardly put it down.
