For a thin crispy chruschici leaps above the rolled out method you may want to try these. Irons can be bought at most kitchen stores or online. These are by far the tastiest of polish pastries.
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
1/2 ts salt
1 egg
3 ts sugar
1 ts vanilla
powdered sugar
1 1/2 lb shortening for frying
yield is about 5 dozen
Mix together first 6 ingredients into a batter. Heat the mold in 365 degree shortening for 15 seconds or so. Blot excess oil onto paper. Dip the mold into the batter about 3/4 of the way up the mold. As it will rise during frying.
Dip into the shortening for 45 seconds or until lightly browned. Remove from mold by gently tapping on the side.
Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Store in uncovered container in a dry place.
You can replace a tiny amount of the milk with food coloring if you choose.
