    James Garner's Chiliburger?

Haven't been able to find this anywhere and then I discovered this forum so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Years ago my Mom cut out an article from a newspaper featuring a recipe from James Garner and we loved it. But alas both my Mom and the recipe are now gone. (As is James Garner!)

It was a chiliburger recipe and as I recall you take chili and freeze it into patties. Then you take the frozen patties and dip them in some sort of a batter and pan fry them and serve them with a slice of red onion in a hamburger bun and dress up as you see fit.

They were great back then and I would love to give them another try.

Anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Hiya- sounds like an interesting burger variation, more different than most. I haven't had any luck finding the recipe either.

You might try Uncle Phaedrus, Finder of Lost Recipes... He's a very good free resource to know about. Also has a many-years-long archive of recipes that he's found for others.

Here's a link to a page with instructions for requesting a search:

Good luck. If you do find that recipe, please post it!

I agree with eclecticsynergy that Uncle Phaedrus is the way to go. I didn't have any luck either. Today (Monday) I watched the Food network and Guy on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives he had a cook that deep fried a burger. They used a tempera type dip to fry. That is probably what was used.
