Does Buttercream need refrigeration?

this might sound dumb but I don't know any better.

Does butter cream have to be refridgerated? I bought a butter cream cake from a local store and someone told me that it didn't need to be. Is this true?

You don't need to refrigerate it for a day or so if you don't have temperatures above 74 or so. If it's too warm where you are it may melt. Of course, the store bought buttercream you have may not actually contain butter so it may be shelf stable.
